If you’re in the mood for a Horror movie that will leave you sleeping with the lights on, then Hokum (2026) is the perfect choice. This spine-tingling film tells the story of a novelist who checks into a remote inn, only to find himself face-to-face with a malevolent spirit. With its eerie atmosphere and jump-out-of-your-seat scares, Hokum is a must-watch for fans of the genre.

The plot of Hokum follows Ohm Bauman, a novelist who retreats to a remote inn to scatter his parents’ ashes. However, his peaceful getaway quickly turns into a nightmare when he starts to experience disturbing visions and encounters the dark legend of a witch haunting the honeymoon suite. As the story unfolds, Ohm is forced to confront the dark corners of his past, leading to a shocking disappearance that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

What we loved about Hokum is the way it masterfully weaves together elements of Horror and suspense to create a truly terrifying experience. The film’s remote setting, paired with its eerie sound design, makes for a truly immersive experience that will have you feeling like you’re right there with Ohm, trying to survive the night. The cast, which includes Adam Scott, Peter Coonan, and Florence Ordesh, delivers solid performances that bring depth and nuance to the story. Additionally, Damian McCarthy‘s direction is superb, as he expertly crafts a sense of tension and unease that will keep you guessing until the very end.

While Hokum is certainly a well-crafted Horror movie, there are a few areas where it falls short. For one, the pacing can be a bit slow at times, which may test the patience of some viewers. Additionally, some of the supporting characters feel a bit underdeveloped, which can make it difficult to become fully invested in their stories. However, these are minor quibbles in what is otherwise a thoroughly enjoyable film.

In the end, Hokum is a must-watch for fans of the Horror genre. With its creepy atmosphere, solid performances, and expert direction, it’s a film that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. We’d give it a solid 8 out of 10, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good scare. So, if you’re feeling brave, be sure to check out Hokum – but don’t say we didn’t warn you!
